The Community Health Nurse (CHN) works with clients, who can be people, families, or communities, to promote, preserve, and restore health, as well as to educate, prevent, and reduce disease, disability, and death. In partnership with the health care team, the CHN delivers a comprehensive community health service and works within the framework of primary health care to improve clients’ capacity to adapt to, respond to, and manage life’s difficulties and changes.
This position requires a Bachelor of Nursing or Diploma in Nursing with equivalencies, or comparable experiences, such as a diploma in public health, a Health Canada clinical skills course, an advanced practice course, or expertise in home care nursing. A minimum of two years of community health nursing experience is required for this job. As equivalencies, acceptable combinations of education and experience may be recognized.
Applicants must be able to register with the Registered Nurses Association of the Northwest Territories and Nunavut (RNANT/NU) before to the start date and do so annually.
The candidate must have one of the following certifications at the time of hire: Basic Trauma Life Support (BTLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Neonatal Resuscitation (NALS), Foetal Monitoring, or Critical Incident Stress Management. with the remainder (as instructed) must be completed during the first year of work and then as needed to maintain certification.

Recruiting bonuses for full-time, permanent nurses are $5,000 on the first day of work, $5,000 after 18 months, and $10,000 after 30 months. Other benefits include a $9,000 frontline allowance and a $375 monthly retention bonus, for a total of $4,500 per year.
