OPEN NWT POSITIONS: Average assignment durations vary from 2 to 6 weeks.

The ideal applicant will have five full-time equivalent years of experience in the following areas of practice, as they will provide high-quality community health relief assistance and excellent nursing care to clients living in the Northwest Territories Community. The experienced Northern Nurse must follow the rules and procedures established by the NTHSSA (Northwest Territories Health and Social Services Authority).

In the NWT, we offer exciting openings for the following positions:

Acute Registered Nurse (Obstetrics)

To facilitate customized obstetrical nursing care provides direct, patient- and family-centered nursing care to obstetrical clients (and their babies) in conformity with the norms, guidelines, and scope of professional nursing practice.

Acute Registered Nurse (Pediatric)

Pediatric patients may be allocated to the pediatric nurse alone or in conjunction with adult patients. Pediatric psychiatric patients, adult medical or surgical patients, and pediatric psychiatry patients are among those who may be included in this group.

Acute Registered Nurse (Surgery)

On a daily basis, the RN, Surgery makes decisions about individual nursing care plans based on delegated medical instructions. At any given moment, the incumbent may be responsible for up to six patients, delivering care through autonomous nursing interventions and physician-delegated medical orders.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Employ the nursing process in line with the care plan, utilizing observation, assessment, nursing diagnosis, counseling, and health education competencies. On an ongoing basis, the interdisciplinary team will ensure that clients’ emotional, spiritual, and physical comfort and safety are addressed to the greatest extent possible within the area of practice.

  • Needed is a history of good communication, great people skills, and the ability to handle tough situations in a consistent, objective way.

  • Job Qualification

Education & Nursing License Requirements

Graduation from a recognized nursing program and possession of or ability to get a nursing license from the Registered Nurses of the Northwest Territories and Nunavut (RNANTNU)

Experience

RNs must have a nursing degree and a professional license. They should also have at least five years of relevant experience within the last ten years.

Also, nurses will have to fill out a checklist of their skills to make sure they have the right ones. 

Other Skills and Abilities

All coursework and credentials will be checked and discussed during the interview.

  • Valid and current CPR and BLS certifications
  • Evidence of COVID Vaccination
  • Immunization Record: Hepatitis B and Measles, Mumps, and Rubella Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Check (within the last 12 months)
  • A valid Canadian driver’s license is required.
