Program Assistant Job at the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) 2023: The position is in the RAF Regional Office. This person is in charge of leading FAO’s response to regional food security, agriculture, and rural development priorities by finding, planning, and carrying out FAO’s most important projects in the region.

It ensures that programs employ a multidisciplinary approach, determines the organization’s top objectives in the region, and collaborates with departments and divisions at Headquarters to create, promote, and supervise FAO’s strategic response to regional priorities.

Additionally, RAF provides guidance on how to incorporate regional goals into the organisation’s work programme and budget. It also implements approved programmes and initiatives in the region, monitors the level of programme implementation, and alerts the organisation to problems and deficiencies.

RAF cultivates and maintains partnerships with regional institutions, including the Regional Economic Integration Organizations (REIOs). The Regional Office assists people in the region in discussing food security, agriculture, and rural development policies, facilitates the formation of regional partnerships, and assists people in the region in developing their skills and locating resources related to food security, agriculture, and rural development.

Technical Focus

The program assistant is responsible for ensuring that the department’s programs and projects receive the necessary assistance. He or she works on a variety of program, planning, and budgeting duties that demand an in-depth knowledge of the relevant regulations, processes, and practices. The individual in charge instructs managers and employees within the department or location.

Tasks and responsibilities

The FAO’s corporate information systems for all operational field projects and operations are complete and of high quality. Do whatever else is required of you.

  • Assist in developing project work plans, monitoring progress, and, if necessary, devising corrective methods to circumvent operational difficulties;
  • Ensure that all national, sub-regional, and regional initiatives have been granted operational clearance.
  • Put data into FAO systems, such as GRMS and FPMIS, that require it; update and manage databases and collect data to provide reports, graphs, and statistics;
  • Assist with the processing of project management-related duties, including requests for funds, accounts, employment, fellowship training, meetings, training courses, and purchasing.
  • Process secondment reports and journal vouchers for salary reimbursements of FAO personnel working on the project, in accordance with project budgets and applicable rules and regulations;
  • Commence remedial measures to enhance project delivery;
  • Prepare, update, and monitor the project’s budget and spending, ensuring a positive balance at all times;
  • provide the necessary information so that progress reports and final reports can be prepared and transmitted on time;
  • Prepare analytical and financial progress reports, as well as reports based on results, in accordance with FAO regulations.
  • Observe how Trust Fund and TCP initiatives are implemented throughout the region;
  • Prepare a delivery estimate study for regional trust fund and TCP projects requiring it;
  • Prepare and submit a request for the operational and financial closure of the regional projects.
  • Start, view, and track administrative transactions in the computerised financial, travel, and human resources systems;

Minimum Requirements

  • Education in secondary school
  • Five years of experience doing administrative, financial, planning, programming, and budgeting duties for both ongoing programmes and special initiatives
  • Knowing English and a second language well enough to get by will be advantageous (Level C).
