SUMMARY OF DUTIES

A public health nurse (PHN) integrates information from public health sciences, primary health care, nursing science, and the social sciences to promote, protect, and preserve population health. JOB ASSIGNMENT

PHN will work with schools to improve the health and well-being of kids and teens. This will require knowledge in the following areas:

  • Utilizing population health data to inform the design and delivery of health promotion programs to school communities in Hamilton
  • Increasing school and community capability via participation in comprehensive school health and the “healthy schools” approach
  • Identifying and addressing key health issues through collaboration with administrators, school personnel, children, parents/guardians, and community partners
  • Take on leadership roles in promoting school-based methods for improving the health of the whole community.
